Back to Malaysia

Almost 5 years since last visiting Kuala Lumpur and what a change here too !
Mr Gwee and his team of Muihua had taken the trouble to visit our Vinexpo Bordeaux stand last June so had promised to visit again when next in the region.
Following the amazing Celebration 85 of Dr NK Yong in Singapore and due to the fast approaching dates of Chinese New Year which is early this year, our local importer was extremely understanding to let the Hugel scion stay for a full week to make-up for the recent lack of focus on Malaysia. We should both be rewarded !

Activities were focused on the ontrade with a stay with longtime Tokyo American Club friend Michael Marlay in his new position of group director F&B for Sunway hotels and Resorts. Staff training and wine dinner which perfectly coincided with the monthly dinner of the Malaysian Food and Beverages Executives Association. A rare opportunity so meet soo many important industry persons and as we were just before Chinese New Year to capture on Video the very Malaysian Chinese Lou Sang or Yee Sang, a good luck - good fortune tradition. Wines with the yellow, gold and red label also proved to be the good liquid ingredient and nicely lubricated the evening with an Alsacian Lou Sang as shown on this Video.

Another wine dinner was held at the Shangri-La KL making many new friends amongst consumers to our wines, a nice mix of expats and locals from various communities.

Following days more wine tastings organised by Muihua and visits to its main retail clients such as Cold Storage where a lady client was pleased to purchase a bottles of Hugel Gewürztraminer and received a free copy of the January issue of Flavours magazine which just features an excellent story on Hugel written by Singaporean upcoming wine writer. Julian Teoh  just visited us right into our latest vintage and shared with his readers an nice insight of a visit to a vintner right into action.

Further events included wine dinners at 2 of KL's signature restaurants, Chinoz on the park, right in the basement of the Petronas towers' KLCC. Teng Wee Jeh, a recognized pioneer in KL gathereed a great group of friends and clients including Malaysian Sommeliers Association President Roderick Wong .

Another memorable moment was a journey to the jungle chauffeured by Eddy and Chris, an ABC on the KL restaurant scene with their CHQ and other ventures, a scenic drive to the gorgeous villa of German industrialist Thilo Westerhausen for a gorgeous local lunch and an education session on Durian captured on Video. A curry fish head lunch that followed the staff training was another favourite of the Hugel scion.

More wining and dining hosted by Muihua's owner Mr Gwee for his close neighbours and friends at one stunning chinese restaurant with a menu that featured all the most exquisite classic Chinese dishes from sharks fin to abalone, all paired with our "golden wines" including the soon to be available Gentil 2010 and the much appreciated Gewurztraminer with its unique litchi flavours. An equally fun lunch with exquisite Xia Long Bao and Louis Roederer Champagne to put us all in sparkling mood.

At last but not least, a wine dinner, this time with signature French noble ingredients at Millésime, run by strong personnality and longtime KL restaurant figure Max Chin.

Instore tasting at strong Hugel supporter with festive mood and a nice group of knowlegeable consumers brought a very full week to an end. More Bahasa to follow in Jakarta. Terimakasi

A very warm thank you to Mr Gwee, longtime director Eric Tan, Frenchman David Stephan, Justin Tan, Jeffrey Lim and Catrina Lim. Enjoy a well deserved Chinese new year celebration and a good start of the year of the Dragon.
